Hi, I am searching for the baptism af Edward Green in Whilton, Northants. I have checked the IGI batch numbers and Whilton doesn't appear to be covered. I believe he was born around 1834, maybe a year either side. I have this info from his death record in 1909. I thought I had him once, but that's the trouble with the name 'Green'  . Thanks, Jo

Perhaps it would be best to wait for the marriage certificate - father's name would be an additional checking point.
Suggest you add the information to this thread when you receive it (I have the thread on "Notify" so won't miss it!) and I'll then go along to the library and see what I can find ...

I'll do that. Green is such a common name! I bet his father's name is John, just to make it harder

Recieved the marriage cert today and Edward's father is called John. He is listed as a labourer. Thanks, Jo

I got to the library this morning and had some success!
Here's Edward's baptism:
09 NOV 1834 - Edward GREEN, s. John and Charlotte, labourer, of Whilton (Ceremony conducted by John ROSE, rector)
And Edward's siblings:
03 MAR 1833 - Ann
12 FEB 1837 - Sarah
12 JUL 1840 - George
19 MAY 1844 - William
13 DEC 1846 - Naomi
?? DECC 1849 - Ann
I checked back to 1826, but Ann seems to be the eldest child - so then had a look for parents' marriage:
13 NOV 1832 - John GREEN (otp) to Charlotte LANSBERRY (of Moulton), by banns
Ceremony conducted by (name illegible), Rector of Brockhall
Signed: John GREEN and (mark of) Charlotte LANSBERRY
Witnesses: Samuel GREEN and Elizabeth HALE
Moulton baptism (up to 1812) are on the IGI, and Charlotte (as LANSPERRY) is recorded. You will see that there are many variations of the surname!
