Watts family of Romford
« on: Wednesday 08 December 04 14:48 UTC (UK) »

My paternal grandfather was Maurice Samuel Watts. On his wedding certificate (at St Peter, Pimlico, London) dated 10th November 1907 he is shown as aged 29, a bookbinder, of 39 St Georges Street, Romford  His father (then deceased), a Samuel Watts, was a gunsmith.

I cannot trace Maurice or Samuel anywhere in the 1901 Census. Maurice may have had a brother called Edward Stephen. Can anyone help in finding details of my family? Was there a bookbinding business and a gunsmith in Romford at the turn of the century?

kellys directory of 1906 gives no mention of the WATTS as gunmakers, bookbinders or book sellers.
1891 census George street Romford RG12/1362-1379,
i couldnt see any Watts family. At least that rules out a few possibilities.
Sorry i couldnt give you anything positive, i'll have a look through my other Essex Directories.
