Can someone please help with information on

Hi Raylen

These are the only entries coming up in Stirlingshire to parents with those names (mother is showing as Mary DOBBIE). All records are submitted entries on IGI with exception of the christening for Elizabeth 1837. Dates are quite specific so you may well find corresponding entries on Scotlands People OPR index:

1. ELIZABETH DOWNIE CHRISTIE  Birth: 13 JUL 1827 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland
2. WILLIAM CHRISTIE  Birth: 29 JAN 1830 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland
3. JANET CHRISTIE  Birth: 18 SEP 1832 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland
4. ANDREW CHRISTIE Birth: APR 1835 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland
5. ELIZABETH DOWNIE CHRISTIE  Christening: 13 JUL 1837 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland
6. ROBERT CHRISTIEBirth: 20 SEP 1837 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland
7. JOHN CHRISTIE Birth: 17 OCT 1840 Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland

Depending on which line you are following, hopefully a check on the censuses will let you confirm birth place.

Regards.

There is also a marriage, actual extract from the OPRs that would correspond:

ROBERT CHRISTIE  Marriages: Spouse: MARY DOBBIE
Marriage:  03 JUL 1825  Saint Ninians, Stirling, Scotland

Sorry...........it's me back again and I'm very confused Huh

Unfortunately these folks above don't seem to be mine.

The confirmed information I have is:
Samuel Christie born 1829 Stirling (Father:Robert  Mother:Mary) ,married Robina Aitken 1852 in Scotland

I also have a death certificate for Robert Christie, Blacksmith. born Stirling.
Father: Robert Christie - Cabinet Maker
Mother: Mary Christie - no maiden name listed
Arrived in Australia 1857 and died in 1863
It lists the informant as: Alexander Christie - Brother

Can anyone shed any light on this family? Mary's maiden name would be really helpful.
Are these two related or am I on a wild goose chase Roll Eyes
Any help really appreciated

Can I ask some kind person to give me some help please.

Given that I have details of Samuel Christies death certificate and can't find anything of him or his family on census.................where do I look next Huh

Is it possible that Mary's maiden name is in fact Christie? (Not that I have found any record of her as such) Does that make any difference on where I could look?

I'm starting to feel like I'm at a dead end with this family.

Raylen

It's hard to piece it together as there does not seem to be any Old Parish Register entries for the children as you show. From your first post:

Robert Christie born abt 1833
Samuel Christie born abt 1829
John Christie born abt 1841
also maybe an Alexander Christie -birth date unknown
all born Stirling,Scotland.
Children of Robert Christie and Mary (maiden name unknown).

The only marriage of a Robert Christie that I have found is the one I posted to a Mary Dobbie and the children from IGI.

There are a couple of entries on the 1841 census which I am not sure if you have seen:

Isabella Christie 55, farmer
Samuel Christie 16, ag. lab
Alexander Christie 8, ag. lab

Jean Cochran    15
George Cunning    40
George Clevenson 15
Ann Canns 15

Address: West Hillton Cower, St Ninians, Stirlingshire

All the Christies show as born in the county. From the ages of the Samuel and Alexander above, they would likely be g/children to Isabella (no relationships within the household are given in the 1841 census). This is the only Samuel Christie that I can see on the 1841 index with a birth year of 1829 +/- 5yrs in Stirlingshire.

There is also another entry in 1841 for a Robert Christie:

Robert Christie 35, cabinet maker
Marcy Christie    35
John Christie    3
Robert Christie 1

Address: Lower Bridge Street, St Ninians, Stirlingshire

The age for for everyone over 15 were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest five years, children are supposed to show their actual age (not always the case as shown by the entry for Samuel above who shows as age 16 so born in 1825). The Robert and Marcy above could be aged anywhere between 35-39. The main problem with this entry is the age of Robert child b. 1840 which from what you have posted would not fit in age for the Robert who died in 1863 (I assume you have taken his birth year from his age at death).

I'll see what I can find for them in 1851 which contains a bit more personal info, and to whether anything is clearer.

Regards.

Raylen

I haven't got any answers here, just posting info as I find it.

This looks like a possibility for the Robert born c. 1833 in the 1851 Census going by his occupation:

Robert Christie, 16, Smith's apprentice, b. St Ninians - living at the McLay household (William McLay, blacksmith)
Address:  Cowie, St Ninians

And a possibility for Samuel born c. 1829:

Samuel Christie 22, farmer servant. born n/k (not known? - you would have to check the original to see what it says if anything for birth place) Stirlingshire. He's working at the Moffat farm, Address: Westfield Farm, Cumbernaul Dumbartonshire

And lastly, Robert Snr. the cabinet maker:

Robert Christie 49, cabinet maker, b. Stirling
Margaret Christie 44, b. Stirling
John Christie    12, b. Stirling
Margaret Christie 7, b. Stirling

Address: Lower Bridge Street, Stirling

Raylen, always a possibility that Robert above may be on to a second marriage with Margaret (probably Marcy was mistranscribed in 1841?) and that mother/wife Mary died mid 1830s.

What info if any do you have on potential brothers John and Alexander?

1861 Census and now I'm getting v. confused  Roll Eyes Robert the cabinetmaker's wife's names:

1841: Marcy
1851: Margaret
1861: Mary

His entry:

Robert Christie 58 cabinet maker
Mary Christie    53, b. St Ninians
Margret Christie 16, b. Stirling

Address: 20 Belfield, New House, St Ninians

Can't easily see Robert Snr. in 1871.
