'A Copy of a poll for the county of Derby, 1734'
« on: Wednesday 20 June 07 23:49 BST (UK) »

I recently found out that the LDS hold something called 'A Copy of a poll for the county of Derby, 1734',  I'm hoping I can order the film from LDS here in London... if not any ideas where I can get to see it? Mattlock?
Would my relatives have to have owned land to be listed?
I just wondered if there were any other polls or taxes in Derbyshire that might have listed people at around this time? 1700-77 (They weren't on the hearth tax, but I have the will of a relative in Mackworth in 1777 but can't trace him back any further and want to know if the family were in Mackworth at this time)
cheers
Frances

Before you do anything, check out:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dusk/1734_poll/1734_poll.html
and
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dusk/1734_poll_2/1734_poll_2.html

That is probably, in large part or whole, the same document.

As I understand, the poll books for Derby (from 1701) and some from Derbyshire (of which the 1734 is probably the earliest) are in the Derby Local Studies library (via http://www.derby.gov.uk/LeisureCulture/Libraries/LocalStudiesLibrary/Getting_Started_in_Family_History.htm)

And, yes, as you will see, only freeholders of substance would be "voting".
