Site building software
« on: Friday 22 June 07 08:23 BST (UK) »

Hello

I'm new and am very interested in the Free Webspace. I've considered using Dreamweaver and NOF software for building a website but I'm also interested in the offer made by Trystan in September 2004:

Quote
PART TWO: In the coming months we are also bringng you a really easy package for you to build your own website (RootsChatEasy) using no software at all - just build it using your web-browser online. As with everything on RootsChat, it will also be free.

PART THREE: We will also be providing a very exciting online family tree websites for RootsChatters too, with the ability to find links to other users trees. And again, this will be free too.

How can I access this software (RootschatEasy) and the online tree websites?

Thank you

Gnu

One of the experts may be able to tell you more, but I;ve never heard of rootschateasy.  I think maybe it didn't come to pass.  Some of use NOF which is quite good and easy to use and there's plenty of us willing to lend a hand.

If you look down the board there are other options in the tutorials at the top.

Best wishes

Kerry

Thank you.

I'll certainly look into NOF. I've used it before but thought that as there was an offer of an easy build I would explore it.

Should the message be modified, if it's not going to be provided?  It's misleading for newcomers otherwise.

Oh. I've just noticed that there's a message after it saying that users would have to use their own software so obviously something happened and it didn't come to pass!

Hi Gnu,

as you say
Quote
obviously something happened and it didn't come to pass!

I've now deleted those parts of the original message, as they are very misleading (as you've noticed  Grin )

And I'll just reinforce whar Kerryb has said: no, you haven't boobed, it's just that no one had mentioned it here before.

So, Thanks for mentioning this  Grin

Hi Everyone,

Not sure if this info is of any use to you?but might be worth a try?I have been using EWISOFT WEB SITE BUILDER for just over a year now and find it OK.
I guess like any other program it takes a while to get used to it?
I think if you type Ewisoft in your browser the site will appear and give you all the info you need.

Best regards,

There is a problem with sites where you can build your site on-line like Tribal Pages and Genes Reunited in that if you want to extract a gedcom file you sometimes have to upgrade your service.  In the case of Tribal Pages people have suddenly found that they have to pay money in order to extract their gedcom file.  With GR it is a case of requesting the gedcom file and it is sent via an email attachment.

I think most people would prefer to have their masterfile on their local PC and upload it to a website - either the whole file or selective data.  I can't see any benefit of building a website on-line as there is plenty of good free software out there where you can produce the gedcom file and then upload it.
