If anyone has access to the 1841 - 1871 census would they be kind enough to look up Margaret McLean born 1821 Boharm
Had her address as Newfield; Boharm in 1881
Her father was Lewis McLean born Knockando, Moray
Thank you
Jane

hi jane,
i could not help myself, i had to find out who the parents of isabella munro and james shand were? also alexander dow?
well there is extracts on the igi's that say that alexander dow was the son of helen mclean and alexander dow, cannot find a marriage for them, young alexander was born on the 12/9/1836 boharm.
as for isabella munro, she was the daughter of margaret mclean and alexander munro, she was born 2/6/1844 at boharm, cannot find a marriage for the parents.
i did find a marriage later for margaret mclean which ties up with james shand on the 1861 census. margaret mclean married james shand in urquhart 14/12/1860 but oor john shand was born 9/7/1852 boharm!!!
then went on to have
jessie shand...4/12/1861 in rothes, moray
williamina shand...15/3/1864 edinkillie, moray
this wee bit confuses me as she is noted as being unmarried on the 1861 census!!!
let's hope that some kind soul will put up the 1871 census, we will also find out if isabella who was aged 75 in the 1861 census made it into 1871.
the jessie jack who is on the 1861 census is the daughter of christina shand, who maybe the sister of james...who knows?
always searching
joe

OK Here's who is living at Newfield in 1871!
John McLean, head, unmarried, aged 64, Farmer of 50 acres, Born Boharm Helen McLean, sister, unmarried, aged 49, Dom Servant,Born Boharm Margaret McLean, sister, unmarried, aged 45,General Servant, Born Boharm Isabella Munro,niece,unmarried,aged26, Dom Servant,Born Boharm Jessie Jack, niece, aged 15, scholar, Born Boharm John Shand,nephew,unmarried,aged18, Ag Lab, Born Boharm.
No Isabella aged 85 to be found. Guess she has popped her clogs.
Margaret McLean is still here, unmarried!!!
I guess the marriage of Margaret McLean and James Shand in Urquhart and their kids born in Rothes and Edinkillie are not oors!!!
Best wishes Jean

I have just noticed this thread and would just like to add that Charles McLean b.1777 younger brother of Lewis was my 3xGGF. I also have their parents as John McLean & Helen Stewart but can't find parents of John. Do you have any information on them?
Tentatively I have Helen's parents as George Stewart (b.1653?) & Elspat McKimmie (1701) from Rothes. There is only the one George on SP but it puts him at 68 when he married Elspat who was 24 at the time of the marriage; his parents were James Stewart & Elspet Duncane c.1630.
Elspet McKimmie's parents were George McKimmie & Marjorie Grant c.1675.
I can give you my tree down from Charles if you are interested.
Regards,
Alastair
