Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hi,
I am trying to trace back the Thom and Cordiner branches of my family tree but I am pretty stuck! Any info or advice would be great!
The info I have so far is that:
James Hogg Thom's (b. 1845, m. 1866, d. 1888) parents were
John Hogg Thom (b. 1814, m. 1835. d 1870) and Mary May (m. 1835)
John Hogg Thom's parents were James Thom and Susan Cordiner
I know this isn't a lot but they all seemed to live in Peterhead, Aberdeen.
Hope someone can help.
Alan

Hi Alan
Sadly there doesn't seem to be very much on James Thom and Susan Cordiner.
I can see in 1841 a possibililty for Susan (widowed?) with a daughter:
Susan Coxdiner 60 Isabella Thom 30, dress maker Susan Thom 6 James Fraser 55 Mary Mess 55 Mary Mess 4 Jane Morrice 65 William Stephen 17
Address: East Side Windmill St, Peterhead
The two Susans and Isabella are showing as born in the county.
Apart from that, on the OPRs there is this marriage/banns entry, which made me wonder whether Susan may have remarried?:
08/08/1813 CORDINER SUSAN JAMES STRACHAN/ F Peterhead /ABERDEEN 232/ 0020 0390
Regards.

That could be the correct people in the census because both james and susan had a daughter called isabella but she was born in 1802. A few years out but still a possibility.

This child Susan in 1841 is 'visiting' in 1851:
Mary Buchan 24, seaman's wife, b. Peterhead William Buchan 2 Susan Thom 16, General Servant, b. Peterhead
Address: Wallace Street, Peterhead
And a possibility for mother, still with a birth year c. 1810 (maybe an early death for the Isabella born c. 1802 and second child called Isabella?)
Isabella Thom 41, washerwoman, b. Peterhead Robert Arthur 7, son b. Peterhead
Address: Windmill Street, Peterhead

This might be useful - http://www.phlomis.plus.com/index.htm
Also, I PMd you with this - "Not sure if this would be connected to your Cordiners, but I have a photo of a Gravestone in Kirkton Cemetery, Fraserburgh, details as below:
Elizabeth Cordiner, wife of James Bisset who died 15th March 1959 aged 75 years, also the above James Bisset who died 7th July 1962 aged 74 years also their daughter Marjory F. Bisset who died 21st November 1978 aged 67 years."
Was it of any use?
James.
