hi

I can't find Absalom marrying an Amy Billingham.

I can find Absalom marrying a Hannah Worton (sept 1877) in Stourbridge area.
And then appearing on the 81, 91 and 01 census as living in Cradley where they made chains and anchors. They also had a son and called him Absalomin1883 along with 6/7 other children.

sorry

i have just thought that maybe it is cradley heath staffordshire, and not cradley in worcestershire where they lived
thankyou anyway jane for your information.

hi

The Stourbridge registration area covers the boundaries of Shropshire, Saffordshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire. -so it should pick it up.

On the 1901 census there are only 5 Absalom Cox listed anywhere

1 +2 the two I gave above (also on 1891)
3. b1825 in Dorset living in Teddington Middlesex (+1891)
4. b 1854 married to esther b Brighton living St Clements, London (+1891)
5. b in Cuckfield Durham but has been mistranscribed -should be Cook

in 1891 this one appears, but not in 1901
b Dover 1882 living in Dover

A bit of a mystery, especially as he has such an unusual name!

hello

What is the name of his son? Where born and dates?
Any other children?

Do you have birth dates for Absalom or Amy? or place?

If you have a few more details, I will have another look.

Thanks Jane for that info, i do have cox family from Cradley in my family tree, and I am now wondering if there was a Absalom Cox who married Amy Billingham,  I have it in my records but it has not been properly checked. i have also their 5 children who were Amy, William, Absalom, Rebecca and Lottie, i to could not find any absalom cox in the staffordshire 1901 census, so maybe. i cannot remember where i got my info from but i am beginning to think that it could be a mistake, until then i will take a deeper look into this and probably visit smethwick library they have a lot of info for staffordshire, any way thanks for your hard work it is much appreciated   glen

Hello Jane after much researching I have just found out that Amy Billingham married Henry Cox and not Absalom like i thought, His father was absalom who was born about 1846 like you said. I used the information that you gave me, and found what i was looking for when i visited Dudley Archives in coseley, i now need to find out where and who was in Henry and Amy,s family in 1901. why i thought it was Absalom was the wife of Amy was because of information from a relative of the cox family who is rather elderly told me the information anyway thanks again for the info you gave me, it was brilliant.
