I posted a new topic in the Common Room, and it came back with a "database error". When I try to repost, it says that I've already posted it, but there's no sign of the post when I look for it. It was a post requesting help for tree research in France.

Sorry about that hiccup - it's happened to me a few times recently. I'll alert the technical person (Trystan!) at Admin and hopefully the problem can be solved.
In the meantime, would you like to try again?

Looking forward to the answer.
Every time something like that has happened to me (with a new topic or a reply), the post actually IS there eventually (not just going backwards or whatever).
Computers do sometimes seem to have minds of their own ... (think one of those EVIL emoticons is needed here )
JAP PS: Interestingly, this post wouldn't post! Went 'back' - and there it was! Now, will the same happen to the PS!

This morning I also replied to a post but I couldn't find it afterwards. It was a comment at about 10.56 to dweaving "This sunny weather brings out the pics in me" or something to that effect.

I'm having the same problem with all the replies I've posted today.
I type my answer, click on Post, then it just freezes, but when I cancel and go back to the thread my new reply is there
Very strange.......maybe there's a little glitch with the site today. I have noticed that it's running much slower than usual.
There are just over 500 people using the site at the moment, so maybe that's got something to do with it.

My Mum made me pretty frocks
|
So am I. i went to make a posting and got a 'Timed out' message. I'd been all of 30 secs because i now type most of my replies in notepad before posting because of previous problems.
I've just logged in again and had the best ever non sequitor message yet:
"Warning, while you were posting 2 replies have been made" in red as usual

I wasn't posting or anything - just trying to log in!
Something very strange is happening and it's very, very slow
I thought all the changes since January were supposed to be improving the performance. It seems to be getting worse, sometimes I feel that it's not worth trying to help anyone

Oh, Gadget, don't do that, I wanted to ask you how your own family history research went in S.W. Scotland recently!

Hi ankerdine - I'm not going until 29th
Maybe Roots might let me help a few more people until then but it is very off putting when you've spent ages sorting something out or want to read a reply so that you can help some more and all you get are daft messages that bear lttle relation to what's happening or you get the little circle in the top of the browser going around and around.
It's not me - all the other sites that I've been on are fine

Hope the weather bucks up for you.
Also, can you tell me please how to insert a quote from someone else's message. That is if you dare to try and fox the gremlins!
Ta.

You are not alone, I was having the same problem yesterday. 3 times I posted messages and then send and...... it would hang and hang and in end I would close down. When I reopened Roots there was my message posted and at the top of the list.
No wonder we get people posting messages more than once, you certainly have to have your wits about you.
and slow - I can read War and Peace while I'm waiting for the messages to send!!!!

Golly gosh, this thread seems to have become a bit negative
My response (the second on this thread) was supposed to be along the lines of a 'glass half full' not a 'glass half empty'! That is, I was saying that even when there might appear to be problems, the post usually does successfully get posted
Ah well, I guess we all see things from a different perspective.
Many many thanks from me to everybody involved in any way in running our wonderful RootsChat!!

Have you seen the funny message that we've all been getting. It's not negativity, it's bewilderment

I'm like you - a glass half full person! But I'm just puzzled by the current glitches that seem to be cropping up on Roots at the moment, mind you I could blame it on the lovely summer weather we are having at the moment!!!!
BTW it must be way past your bedtime now JAP or can you just not get enough of our company
Kerry
Modified - there now, it didn't tell me Gadget had sneaked in and asked you about bedtime too!!!!

Not, I think, that anyone knows where any individual RootsChatter is actually located as he/she posts (no doubt Trystan could determine this if he remotely cared about what time of any individual's day it is when he/she chooses to access RC).
I trust that this thread will end up as a "Transient Topic" ref: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,240281.0.html
