I would have thought a birth registered as Girl/Female or Boy/Male would indicate a child who was stillborn or died very soon after it was born.
Have I got it right that it was the eldest child you are looking for?
Have you looked for a child born before a marriage: under the  mother's maiden name?

Shocked  now that you say it ...it sounds so obvious...maybe he was George w jackson ! I just had a quick look and there is a George born in manchester in the June...hmmm maybe it was him, and maybe they got married after having him and before the next child was born....THANKS

I hope you find George's birth (and his parents' marriage).
Do you keep a regular lookout on LancashireBMD?
New churches are being added all the time.
It's fabulous for marriages as it gives the church so long as it wasn't Register Office or Registrar Attended.
