Hi Yogibear

Can you give us a little more information about Michael.   I can only see one chap that might fit on the Suffolk 1851 Census Index.  He is widowed and is living with the following children.

HO107/1794 Folio 180 Page 15
Hunston Road
Norton St Andrew
Suffolk

BLOOMFIELD

Michael, Head, Married, 52, Ag Lab, b Norton
Joseph, Son, 21, Ag Lab, b ditto
Michael, Son, 18, Ag Lab, b ditto
Osbourn? Son, 16, Ag lab, b ditto
Betsy, Dau, 14, Housekeeper, b ditto
Mark, Son, 11, b ditto

If you think that this is your chap, it might be worth requesting a Norton Parish Record Lookup for him on the Suffolk Lookup Requests board.

Hi,

On the IGI I can see these children with parents William BLOMFIELD and Susanna KING,

Mary
Chr: 14 Sep 1800 Norton

James
Birth: 15 Nov 1803
Chr: 18 Dec 1803 Norton
Death: 24 Jan 1808

Hannah
Birth: 18 Sep 1806
Chr: 12 Oct 1806 Norton
Death: 08 May 1808

There are some other earlier children to a William and Susanna BLOMFIELD in Norton, but I don't know if it's the same couple  Undecided

If you go to the IGI (a great free site Smiley) here,

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

and enter William BLOMFIELD in the father box, Susanna in the mother box, with place Suffolk you will be able to see who I mean  Smiley

Hi Yogibear,

You might find the following site useful, it shows what parish registers of each English county are on the IGI.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle

It also has a facility to click on a parish register add a name or just a surname, click on submit and then it will do an IGI search in the parish register for all entries of that name/surname.

Regards.

Rick

What if any is the meeting point of Bloomfields; of any spelling, of both Norfolk & Suffolk. The Suffolk ones don't seem to have moved around much. The Norfolk ones ''seem'' ''possibly'' to go back to 100+. with Flemish/French & Germanic spellings. Alex

Hi Alex

I'm afraid that the honest answer to your question is I don't know!  BLOOMFIELD and its many variants IS a common enough surname in Suffolk, but I have no in depth knowledge of the family.  However, I am sure that many of the Suffolk regulars may have and will be willing to assist/debate this with you or will be able to point you to a BLOOMFIELD researcher who has done the necessary research.

The Bloomfield name is one that I am interested in as it is my surname and I am born and bread in Suffolk. Unfortunately I have only managed to get back to the 1760s with my research as I have hit a buffer with regards to going back further. I have managed to get back to some Bloomfield's born in Playford but as yet have not been able to work out who their parents are or if they were from the same parish.

I have Mary Bridges marrying Stephen Blumfield, Fellmonger, at Framlingham in 1831.  Mary was the last person to be buried in the churchyard at St Michael's - Stephen's tomb is right by the main door into the church.
