LEMMING in Amersham, any relations or info

I have just dicovered that I am related to the Lemming family of Amersham.

William born 1852 Amersham who became a pork butcher in London but who came back to Amersham after the 1901 Census and died there in March 1912. His wife was Emily (nee Vass I think).

If anyone has them in their tree or has any information I am desperate for information.

henry lemming age 5. b. amersham. son.
living at 9 albert road luton,beds,
william and alfred appear to be somewhere else on the night of the census. i will see if i can locate them.

could not find alfred in 1871 census. if you want me to follow any of the family in subsequent censuses i would be happy to do so.

Thanks Wozzle I am slowly tracking down the Lemming family seems they moved to Bedford and then William to London where he became a pork butcher and married Emily Vass.

I now have traced a little bit more about them with these censuses.

For a while I thought that they had all jumped off a cliff Tongue

Seems William returned to Amersham about 1906/7 and died there in 1912.

On the website of Heather Rohrer on ancestry the line for Srah Gomm goes back to a Stephen Gomm in Chinnor in 1485. Nowe some of my rellies appear on the site but not all dates and places are correct I have checked against parish records and would reccomend the same here.

Thanks once again for your help I will order the marriage cert for Sarah & Anthony. The surname is often mispelled.

Yesterday I ordered the death cert for George Lemming from 1963 and I have birth cert from 1888 but I have been unable to find a marriage for him!!!! I found a WW1 Medal card for the name but don't know if it is my George. Though there weren't a lot of them around so possibly it was him.

Do you know for certain that he married and if so what the ladies first name was?
It is likely it is under a mis-spelling...Lemming/Lemmings/Limming/Lemin.

Hi Tazzie,

No I don't know for certain that he married. I am hoping that the death certificate may throw some light on the matter. Yes mispelling of the name seems to have been the norm.

Regarding the Gomm connection on rootsweb, I would only take it as guide and do my best to confirm it for myself. As I to have seen some entries on the page that differ from information that I have.

Yep some of those on the site vary from dates I have for them and two marriages are wrong. I live in Bucks so if you need any help I can look at PR's for you ....school hols just about to start though...
