I have found a Charles Wells in the Utah Cemetery Inventory on A... Born 7 Jun 1853 in England, died 28 Jan 1933, buried in Provo City Cemetery, Block 8 lot 105,wife Jane. In the 1910 census, he and Jane have a slew of children:
Thomas, 23
Lucilla  20
Walter  17
Helena M  16
Edith E  14
Ethel M 13
Ellen L  10

They were all born in England. This Jane died in Feb 1919, so this next Charles could be the same one, remarried.

There's also another one in Provo in the 1930 census, wife Frances M., age at first marriage 25 for Charles, 20 for Frances, although he is 76 and she 65, so this would be their second marriage.

In 1920, there is a widowed Charles living with his kids Maud, 26, and Mary, 23. They came over about 1908.

Let me know which one you think is the correct one and I will look a bit more.

Looking over that 1920 census record, I would say that Charles with daughters Maud and May is yours also. I think Maud is Helena M., and May is Ethel M. The ages would be right.

I will attempt to find the kids for you.

I have son Thomas in the 1920 census with wife Emma, 33, born Utah, parents born Sweden. They have daughters Daris, 5 and Wanda, 3.

In 1920, Ellen Lucille is a housekeeper in the home of William E. Hawkins.

We have Helena and Ethel with their father.

I have Walter in the 1920 census with wife Jensen, no kids.

I found one Edith from England in Provo, married to John M. Volkel, age 53, with one daughter, Verna E, 16 months old.

I didn't find any Lucille to fit the bill.

Let me move on to 1930 census.

Thomas's family has completely disappeared in the 1930 census. I can't find any of them. I also can't find Walter and Jensen in the 1930.

The Edith Volkel from the 1920 census is listed as Edith E. Volkel here, which is Edith Wells's middle initial. They now also have a son Victor J, 9.

I couldn't find the other girls either.

Let me know if there is anything else you need.

Susan, again great. I wish I had relatives in Utah. I can't imagine having that kind of access.

Just to round this out for you Sharon, I found Emma, Daris (?) and Wanda in the 1930 census. Thomas died in 1929, so I knew to look for her alone. She is living with her sister. According to Charles's death cert, Walter was living in Salt Lake City. I looked in 1930, but couldn't find him.

Sharon,

Have you tried Familysearch.org? I typed in Charles Wells, wife Jane, born 1853 in England and came up with a rather complete tree. Always sketchy on here, but it could give you loads to go on. It lists 15 children, both of Charles's marriages, and many of the children's spouses. And one of the submitters is a Wells (and it has his address).

I am married to Gina Burke and she is the Great Granddaughter of Edith Emily Wells, who is the daughter of Charles Wells and Jane Smith.  I have all of the information if anyone is interested.  If so, email me at (*)
