Hi James
Thanks for your reply.
Alexander Phimister was born in 1825 and he was 28 when he married Elizabeth Burdis in Sunderland in 1853. On the marriage certificate his father is John, who is also a mariner.
Alexander and Elizabeth's first child, John, my great grandfather, was born in 1853.
Unfortunately I have no other information on Alexander.
Margaret
So this would not be your line?:
Name: Alexander PHIMISTER Snr Sex: M Birth: 1824 in Scotland Death: SEP 1894 in Sunderland Note: aged 66 Occupation: Mariner
Marriage 1 Elizabeth b: 1828 in Durham Sunderland Children Alexander PHIMISTER Jnr b: 1857 in Sunderland Rose Anne PHIMESTER b: 1868 in Durham Sunderland
James.

I'm still blundering around in the dark for you meantime.

Hi Tricia & Bec Just to confirm, the death registration of George Phimister Innkeeper - died 12/8/1859 in Boathaven, Wick aged 66 yrs – does give his parents as “George Phimister Farmer Deceased” and “Christina Phimister Maiden Name Bremner (Deceased)”. It records him as married, but doesn’t mention his widow’s name. The registration of her death (Alexandrina Wares “Widow of George Phimister, Farmer”) - 14 years later, 9/1/1873, at Boathaven - definitely records her parents as "James Wares Farmer (deceased) Ann Wares M.S. Bremner (deceased)" John - Toronto

My apologies, I should have used maiden name.
Rose Farquhar c.1783, is my ancestor in a direct female line. She was married to John Phemister. I am aware of one child, Christina Phemister (1817) who married James Levack.

Out of interest, I have a person in my family tree I think may have originated in Orkney.......and her surname has been reported in various OPR and Scotland's people certificates as Fubister, Foubister, Whimster, Phubister, Fibister, Phimpster, Phimster and Whibister.
Phimister, do you think?
