Military Records - Boer War/WWI - help please
« on: Friday 10 December 04 11:05 UTC (UK) »

I've done very little military history research, so hoping someone might point me in the right direction on this one.  Here is the info I have:

James Webb

1. East Lancashire Regiment, pensioned out 1902. (oral history states after he was pensioned out, he returned, so ... )

I have a medal which says:

Pvt James Webb, East Lancashire Regiment.  6393. Transvaal, Orange Free State, Cape Colony.

I'm trying to find his War Record (not sure what it is actually called, but I've seen a document for another individual that gives his service record etc.) and anything else.

Also served with his brother William Webb in the Boer War, I think who also served in Belfast in 1917.

I have had a look around the National Archive website, but get very confused!

Do I have enough information on James to acquire anything?

Can somebody point me in the right direction please.

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan

Thanks for that Jan.
I have looked at the samples of what information you get if you purchase the 'card' and it isn't much to go on to firmly identify the individual.  I might order one to see.

Still searching ...

Thanks for replies, I'll have to take some time with those suggested websites as they have a lot on them.

hi biker, dont know if you are still looking for info - the east lancs were involved in the operations in Jacobsdal, Karee Sidings and Zand River which is where he got his clasps from.  they were in the boer war from Feb 1900 to may 1902.
