Hello everyone. I am trying to find info on a cousin's ancestor, Martin WEAVER, born in 1814 or 1815 in Alsace, married Susannah ? between 1836 and 1846 but not sure where. She is of German descent according to 1881, 1901 census of Ontario. He immigrated to Willoughby or Bertie Township. Any help or info would be appreciated. Thank you.
Mike

Hi, Mike are you needing backwards, then...you can get the information from the 1851 from Welland...I haven't access... If someone can find one of the children's marriages you may get the surname of the mother... a Martin B. may have been the first son, as he is on the 1881 born 1838...but was widowed by then...remarried a Magdalin by 1901
Joseph, born c. 1846 ( says 1854 on 1901? with wife Caroline on 1901 )and Henry born c. 1860 ( sons with the parents in 1881... for those who may find their marriages.
You may also want to check the Weavers on the 1851 who were born in France to find siblings & perhaps a parent for Martin...

The 1881 census gives the Weavers as Mennonite, a strange choice for a French family. Alsace-Lorraine is on French-German border and was under German control for years so might be wise to also consider Germany when searching in records (German for weaver is Weber/Webber).

There are eight heads of households with the Weaver surname on the Ontario 1871 who state born France...of these...Nicholas and Louis state Mennonite as their religion as well...

JJ, Aghadowey,
Thanks. I am, actually, trying to work backwards. We have most of the info from the children, on down. Perhaps I could have worded it better but I was trying to find marriage info, location, maiden name for Susannah, (who seems to be of German descent), and possibly, date of immigration. I actually drove to the old property where they were settles, in Stevensville, this past fall and photographed it. Property is still being farmed but is no longer in Weaver hands.
