1851 census lookup please
« on: Wednesday 04 July 07 11:07 BST (UK) »

My last attempt at Susan Metcalf turned out to be the wrong family altogether (I think!)

This time I would like to try Susan Metcalf, born 1775, Head of house in Cambridgeshire.

The one I am looking for was living in Wickhambrook, Suffolk in 1841 and buried there in 1856.

Thanks

The Cambridgeshire family History society has an index to the 1851 census at www.cfhs.org.uk-click on Searchable Databases.

They have five Susan Metcalfes listed-one aged 32 in Over, three in Haddenham aged 24, 45 and 76 and one aged 66 in Great Shelford.

The Susan Metcalfe aged 76 living in Haddenham was my 5x great grandmother-she was born Susan Doggett in Over.

I do have more information on the Haddenham Metcalfes if you would like it. There were quite a few Metcalfes in Holywell-cum-Needingworth which is now in Cambridgeshire but was in Huntingdonshire at that time.

Hi
Thanks for that. No I don't think this is the one I'm looking for either. Can't find her anywhere in Suffolk in 1851, checking Cambridgeshire was just stretching the point.
Thanks again for your help.  I'll just keep searching. Perhaps I should look for her children and maybe she'll turn up.
Regards
