Cavan -- Ulster? - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 04 July 07 14:02 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Why is it that in some searches, I find Cavan as part of Ulster, yet on the PRONI map it is not?

Are all of Cavan's records located in Dublin?

Regards,    Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,

I think it may depend upon the information you require.

I received a message the other day from PRONI about Census records ....

"PRONI only holds microfilmed copies of the 1901 Census the six counties which constitute Northern Ireland and you would need to contact the National Archives of Ireland ..."

The National Archives should have all records for Cavan but some of the PRONI Collections relating to Ulster landlords with several estates in Ireland may enclude a few Cavan records.

Thanks, Christopher, for helping with this.

Does this mean that school records, BMDs, etc. would be in Dublin?

Regards,   Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,

I think the records you mention are in Dublin. Dianna Hanson's page on www.rootsweb.com/~fianna shows the archives where researchers can find Census Substitutes and Miscellaneous Records for Co. Cavan.

Thanks again.  It looks like an interesting site which I'll certainly check out.
