I've been stumped on this one for many years! James Johnson Bodger - according to several census's he was born Walsoken, Norfolk but on the 1901 census it says Wisbeach Cambs! His age varies each time so he was probably born between 1842 and the end of 1847. His father was named on James's marriage cert as Thomas, who was a gardener. I'd appreciate any help that you can give. Thanks

This may help you,I have looked on the 1851 census and found this, now this is only the transcript and I would say there is a transcript error on James name, the rest fits, fathers name, middle name ,place
Head: BODGER, Thomas Neighbors 132072 Name Relationship Mar Age Sex Occupation Birthplace Thomas BODGER Head M 38 M Gardener Wisbech-Cam Mary BODGER Wife M 48 F Gardener Pointon-Lin Eliz. BODGER Daur U 10 F Dau Walsoken-Nfk John T. BODGER Son U 9 M Son Walsoken-Nfk Peke Johnson BODGER Son U 8 M Son Walsoken-Nfk Address: Walsoken Street, Wisbeach Census Place: Walsoken Wisbeach, Norfolk PRO Reference: HO/107/1767 Folio: 266 Page: 2 FHL Film: 0193661
I have the 1861 so if they are still in Walsoken I will post the findings

I cannot see them in the parish of Walsoken in 1861
I assume you have gone through GRO birth indexes

Thanks for trying, nothing on the GRO - There is a Pete Johnson Bodger on the wisbeach 1851 census born 1842/3 with the correct father - could be an error on the census as I cannot find anything for PJB later in his life.

Thanks, this looks good even though it is not James. If you have a minute sometime, perhaps you could see if it is any different on the 1861 census. I do appreciate your help and many thanks

I don't suppose this was the James Bodger who married Naomi Fairey in Hunts, then emigrated to Australia where he had a son? Naomi died in OZ and he returned to London for the 1901 census having remarried? Some people spend many confusing hours over censii because they don't realise that many people were quite mobile for the times! Marlene

Sorry, but my James was married in 1876 in Liverpool so I don't think this could be him. Thanks for your input though, one day someone may find him! Charley
