Okains Bay Teachers 1900-1922. Help plse.

Looking for details & info. on teachers1900-1922
in Okains Bay Banks Peninsula. Believe a W. Thomas was appointed in 1900 & a T. Stagpoole in 1917 as Head Teachers, also any other teachers in the above time span.
does anyone know anything about W. Thomas & T. Stagpoole.

Might pay contacting the NZ soc. of genealogists.  I know they did a school roll project and they just might have collected teachers along the way.

emailed NZSG ..prompt reply back.... referred me to Okains Bay School Centenary 1872-1972 which my cousin had just lent me so now they're going to try in their library. Very helpful.

Went to the Canterbury Museum Library today looked up a registrar of teachers to 1907
THOMAS Walter
Opawa (suburb of Christchurch 1888-1891
Porters Pass  (on the way to Arthur's Pass Canterbury) 1897
Russells Flat 1898-1899
Okains Bay (Banks Peninsula) 1900-1907

From the1920 Public School Report for NZ
Okains Bay
THOMAS Walter HM (headmaster?) salary 195 pounds
WALKER Gladys AF                           salary  95 pounds.
I didnot have time to check other years but I am sure there are registers to cover other years.
I  forgot to look up T Stagpole. Will try and visit again next week. Hope this has filled some gapes.

Had a reply back from NZSG. They had looked in the NZ Gazette & apparently lists of registered teachers don't include the names of school where they were appointed just Education District e.g. Christchurch. Wanganui etc.

Fortunately for me, Wayne has made a breakthru'.

I  would be interested if you do track down T. Stagpoole.
I am researching Stagpoole family tree but have no T Stagpoole. I do have a George Stagpoole borm 1905 who was a teacher though.

Have been to the Canterbury Museum Library could find no record of T Stagpoole.
The records only went up to 1907 for a register of teachers in Canterbury.
Also found a  1912 return of schools (that is where I found the salary info) for NZ. There was no Stagpoole at Okains Bay in that year.
Will have a look in the Christcurch Library  to see if there are any teacher registers.

Very good of you do another lookup for T. Stagpoole. He apparently was appointed to Okain's Bay school in 1917 but no doubt taught at other schools before then, in order to be Head Teacher.

Did you notice Janine's posting. When I looked in archives came across a G. Stagpoole under Education Board. Perhaps the "T" was a misprint in the Okain's Bay reunion mag. & should have been " G".

I have no descendents or marriage for him.

If you google stagpoole you do get more info about a Thomas Stagpoole. But you have to sift it out from among other material relating to our more illustrious relatives.
