Cawthorne/Maunder/Stainsby Just a Little Bit Stumped!
« on: Thursday 05 July 07 11:41 BST (UK) »

Could anyone help?

George Cawthorne married Frances Mary Maunder in Jun 1876 in Holburn,Middlesex/London, England

George died 9 Jul 1890 age at death 54 years place South Aust and Frances died 14 Jun 1888 age at death 39 years place South Australia.

I believe he may have been married to an Elizabeth Stainsby prior to his marriage to Frances and I don't know if he had any children with his first marriage.

There are a couple of family members stumped to find out who his parents were.  When the both parents died they left 3 children aged 12, 10 and 6 and we wondered what happened to them after that?  We cannot see a connection the other Cawthorne's in South Australia who may have looked after these children.

Thank you All

so were they in OZ by the time of the 1881 census - cant see him in the London area at least - with that spouse ... ?

The name isnt as rare as one would hope .... assuming he was born mid 1830s, theres a few candidates in 1871 ...

If he is the chap wo married Ms Stainsby in 1860, he may well be a Co Durham or Yorkshire chap ...

Hi Newfy

As he married in 1876 he had his first child's birth registered in South Australia in 1877.  He was quite a bit older than Frances this is why I thought he might have had a first wife?

FreeBDM has his marriage to Frances listed but that's all I have.

The family - BUT NOT George snr are in Hunslet, Leeds area in 1881.

Elizabeth is shown as Married, Wife - but no Head present.  Same kids and additions ... but two post 1876 births  ...

Probably rules him out ?

Hi again - in 1871 theres some vague possibiliteis - none of whom are single and closely match her deduced DoB of late 1840s ....

1861 has a closer match on DoB - a lass in Westminster ... but I dont want to raise false hopes.

Best to get the Cert and both their Father's names will be revealed - and another stab at ages (unless it says 'of full age' ..)

Unbelievably, I dont have any relatives there - they all went to the US or Canada !

Cheers !
