Hi
Does anyone have access to the 1871 census for the Chester area of Cheshire. I am looking for a record of Fanny Christmas aged approx 4? Believe her mother was called Mary, but can't find any record of her father from 1881 onwards.
Thanks

That's them, thanks Karenlee, and her father is there at last too! Guess he must have died at some point within the next 10 years becasue he's not on the 1881.
Thanks very much for your help

Just noticed the son-in-law entry for William Owen but he's only 10? Any ideas what this could be, an error possibly?

Hello
William Owen son in law would be Marys son before she married John Christmas. By law William would be Johns son -his stepson.

Ah, that makes more sense now, thanks Pam. I just found Mary and Johns marriage and it listed her name before marriage as Owen. But at least I know that I need to look for that marriage too to get her original maiden name. Guess I better get searching again
Thanks a lot! Jo

Thats great, I would think that's her seeing as the age and birthplace match. Wonder what happened to the other children seeing as only William is still with her on the 1871? Maybe I should look for death records?
Thank very much Pam thats a big help and saved me a lot of extra search time
