THANKS NEWFY
Appreciate the hand
I have been digging around on this Henry Jarvis and the more I dig the more I cannot quite understand why his parents, or who I believe were his parents, a couple from Houghton Parish, Docking District, would end up in Edinburgh Scotland, have a child there, Henry around 1813, and then return back to Houghton by 1816 where the husband/father died!! Henry is adamant he was born in Scotland and never waivers on the Census.
Seems a long way for a couple to go in the early 1800's and for what would they be going during that time frame.... I think I will order Henry's marriage to Sarah Spanton from the GRO and just see who is indicated as his father... although my luck, it will be blank as his Dad had died back in 1816....
THanks Newfy Susan

Not too familiar with Scots stuff, but maybe the Scotlands people site would have an image of birth detail (pre their Civil Regn tho) ....
The only reason there would be no Father named on his Marriage Cert would be if he was in fact illegitimate or his father was unknown to him ?
Be interesting to see what his occupation was too - to drag him up there at that period ?

Hi Again
Yes, I did already check out scotlandspeople's OPRs....nothing for a Henry Jarvis' baptism .... Now it could be mistranscribed but I paid to look at a variety of the soundex for the surname Jarvis and came up empty. I am not convinced he was born in Scotland!! But again this is a very, very odd group!
And yes, I too would like to know what took Wharton Jarvis and wife Grace from Houghton Parish up to Scotland in around 1813...
Or is this all smoke and mirrors...I have had those ancestors!!
CHeers Susan
