I have been up to High Holborn today, looking for details of ancestors wills. Whilst doing so I found Norman and Nellie Emmott, both of 306 Horton Road, Bradford, who both died in 1971. It didn't say widow for Nellie so does anybody know if they were brother and sister or husband and wife ? Regards, Barry Emmott

Probably the easiest (online) and cheapest option:
If they both died in 1971 - their birth dates will be in the GRO death index - assuming that these are correct, it should just be a matter of checking the birth indexes for births?
I doubt if the electoral registers will give status at this date???
Thanks for your suggestion - I tried FreeBMD and found no record whatsoever of either death !! Is there some other way I can check online ? Regards, Barry

but you do have to pay - £5 will give you a number of credits and you should only use a maximum of four for the deaths (one for each quarter unless the surname is spread over two pages) being as you know when they died.
Blakeley in Batley West Yorks Turner in Hanging Heaton West Yorkshire Dann last known area Soothill West Yorks Hirst in Hanging heaton W Yorks Moss in Morley and Leeds Parker in Morley W Yorks Parker in Hull E Yorks Tilburns in Morley W Yorks
Thanks Casalguidi and Winston. I tried 1837online and decided that the Norman I found was not correct so it had to be a pure coincidence that I had been searching for great uncle Norman and great aunt Nellie and just happened to find two people with those names who loosely fitted the dates, etc. However, I did find another Norman at High Holborn and he fits all the requirements so I'm afraid this Norman and Nellie were just a wild goose chase - thanks anyway. I still have Nellie (or possibly Nellie Kathleen), Ruby and Stanley to find. From a letter which my grandfather sent to my father back in 1969 I suspect Ruby married and moved to Morecambe.
