William Brew
« on: Thursday 05 July 07 17:58 BST (UK) »

Can anyone help with William Brew born about 1834 Sherriff Hales Shropshire.
I think I have him in the 1841 census but not living with his parent.
I think he married twice. 1st to Mary Whildsmith in 1852 and then Sarah Riddlesworth .He had a daughter called Martha born in 1859 Shiffnal.
I am trying to find Williams and Marys parents.

Anyone got an idea where to look?

Hi Sandra,
I've been trying to find clues from ancestry etc but not much turning up that is of use to you.
1851 has a Will Brew born Newport Shropshire who is a Private soldier - if you haven't got him in 1851 it may be him.

Looking at Free BMD the second marriage seems to be to a Sarah Devenport perhaps- 1881 has a James Davenport - brother in law and Eliza 83 yrs but no relationship but you really want Mary.

Have you checked marriage certificates for William's father's name? That would be a good start. Then I suppose parish records if you could narrow one down.

The possible 1841 entry has him with an elderly couple- Eccleshall - perhaps grandparents?
sorry -this is the best I can think of
best wishes

hello

I too found the same as Kath.
If you follow the census through to 1891 Eliza Davenport is listed as mother-in-law to William Brew. So his wife must have been a Davenport.

Thinking about the 1841 entry- I too thought maybe grandparents (HO107/905/2/6/24/27).
If you look a few pages earlier there is an entry for Benjamin Eccleshall age 30 and Sarah age 28 with a baby Lewis age1. At a long shot(very long shot!) - Could this William be the child of sarah who has since remarried to Ben, and he is sent to live with her in-laws!?! need to check marriages.
There are no Brew families in the pages before or after?

I can find no Brew family in Sheiff hales on the 41 census.
A mystery really???

Looks interesting.  I had a look at the marriage records 1837-1841 and can not find a Benjamin Eccleshall on Free bmd site. But perhaps there not all on yet.

Yes, I think this is him. I have found out that his father was called Thomas.
And as they were in the census as Brea, they were hiding from me.

Thank you very much for your help.

Sandra.
