Thankyou so very much.

I wonder why an English collector of taxes would have been working in Ireland ?

Hiya Fizzy,

Thomas was working in the United Kingdom. Ireland and Great Britain were all one between 1801 to 1922.

" Deeply regretted by his family and friends " - that sounds a strange thing to put.

Where could I get hold of his death certificate please ?

Fizzy,
Unfortunately, Civil registration for deaths wasn't introduced in Ireland until 1864. There should be a burial record available in the records of St. Peter's Church of Ireland in Drogheda (though it won't necessarily tell you very much). However, I can't advise you on how to access those.
