tattenhall school and ramsdens

Hi all
Can anyone out there help me with some info or anyhting on tattenhall school which a ramsden ancestor of mine went to around 1851. His parents were living in wales and sent him away to school. I just wondered waht kind of school it may have been back then . Someone also said he may have gone to university as he was very bright -is there a way of finding out if this is true??
