Hello, Does anyone have ancestors with this name or any information about them? We think they came from Aberdeen. Ann Pittendreigh married Donald Ross Whyte from Durness in 1840, but I believe they were married in Old Machar, Aberdeen. They later lived in Durness according to Census returns. I would be grateful for any information which could give me a clue about her parents or siblings. KateW

Thanks Monica, That certainly looks like them. We know he worked in the Salmon industry. I wonder what a Salmon Baler is? Kate.

In the interests of avoiding duplication, see my posts (Edit: and Kate's response) on: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=243959
The 1840 marriage/banns entries are in Old Machar, Aberdeenshire and in St Nicholas, parish of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire.
Census entries give Ann's approximate birthdate as 1813 and birthplace as Aberdeen.
A possible baptism might be Ann PITTENDREACH, father James, 1814 - at St Nicholas in the parish of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire.
Kate, I hope you view the marriage/banns entries and the baptism and let us know if they are any help.
Apparently the WHYTE family moved to England so, assuming Ann died there, death cert would not help Edit: Apparently it was a son John who moved south. So Kate might well find Ann's death on SP Further edit: Seems to be there - Ann WHYTE, other name PITTENDRICH, year 1877, age 65.

Joe, Thanks for sending the details. We think Ann was born in 1813 so this is probably not the right Ann. Kate.

I have posted a message on the Aberdeen page/ Look up requests/ Pittendrich (and all names variants!!) which is an update on my search for Ann's parents. From her death record from Scotlandspeople, we can see that her parents were Alexander and Mary. Alexander was an Undertaker. Ann died instantly on July 26th 1877 by falling 40 feet!!! Death was reported by her daughter Marjory Whyte.
Thanks to all who took an interest and tried to help me.
