RUST Family
« on: Thursday 12 July 07 14:08 BST (UK) »

Hi
I'm looking for any information on my Grandmother, Ethel Jane Rust and her family who lived in Scotland. I'm trying to locate her birth certificate  but no one in the family has been able to help me. She died in Cape Town before I was born so the following information was given to me by my father, who due to this is very interested in getting his family tree completed.
Ethel Jane Rust was born 17 December 1900, either in Edinburgh or Aberdeen, her Father was George William Rust and her Mother was a McKisson(I think that's the correct spelling),I'm not sure of her first name. Ethel Jane had 3 brothers, and a sister who died as an infant, not sure what her name was. Her 3 brothers were called Edward Rust(known as Jack), William Rust(known as Billy), and George Rust. The entire family moved to South Africa somewhere between 1903 and 1906, where she married Phillipus Rudolph Els.
Any info or suggestions would be appreciated
Regards

Hi Robert

I am not finding a birth under either Ethel or Jane in 1900 in the whole of Scotland on Scotland's People (I did a search 1855 to 1906). However there are several Jane Rusts showing latest one being 1889.

I will have a look at the 1901 census to see if that sheds any light.

Thank you very much for the trouble you've gone too.
I've managed to find out more about her death and am going to try and work back from there. Maybe passenger lists arriving in SA. At the moment we have absolutely nothing on this family other than what we're being told by our parents. No documentation whatsoever. This I find very strange.
Thank you once again.
Will keep you updated
regards

Had a look for a marriage of George William Rust to McKisson between 1890 and 1902 in Scotland but could not see anything on Scotland's People site

Its probably no help at all but there was a family called Rust living near me in Birmingham, England, in the 1950s. The lady ran a wool shop. Good luck with your search - I hope you find who you are looking for.

There were Rusts in Banffshire around that time (and still are).  I've had a quick look at my info and cant see an obvious link with mine, but I havent done much research on them really.

On scotlandspeople there are only two female Rust children born in the whole of Scotland in 1900, so if you are sure of the date, then it might be worth looking at those.

Best of luck... if you do find yours are from Banffshire please get in touch as I'm sure you will link in to my tree.
