Summerfield, Basford
« on: Saturday 14 July 07 17:37 BST (UK) »

I'm trying to find details of my husbands grandfather.  We have been told his name is Thomas Summerfield, born in Ilkeston, but I have been given his date of birth as  29/01/1917, and the details Basford 111 of 154.

I don't really understand what the Basford 111 of 154 means, and I can't find any records of him on the BMD indexes

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Hello…..

I have had a look for you but nothing for 1917, nothing for 1916.

There is this entry……

March Quarter 1918
Summerfield Thomas W, mothers maiden surname – Statham, Basford registration district 7b 398

You can check for free on Ancestry but the image on there is very poor, but I have just discovered if you use FreeBMD and search the “view images”, when you get to the – “Look for Births in March 1918, starting with S, page”; it gives a long list of page numbers from a drop down list and the image number for the entry on Ancestry is 92 which is the end number of the image you need to find it on FreeBMD;  1918B1-S-0092   ( hope you can follow what I mean)....might come in handy for having another source to check against, that image isn't the best, but better than the Ancestry one.

Regards

Sheila.

Hi Sheila.  Thanks for your help with this.  I was starting to think I was completely stuck at the first hurdle.  I think I'll have to try and find out some more information before I can get started with this.  This family is my husbands birth relatives who he has only just found out about.

I believe he is Thomas W Summerfield.  Is it possible that with the war going on his registration was delayed as i was fairly sure I had his date of birth correct

Thanks again

Irene

Hello Irene,

Not so straight forward then  Smiley

I wonder if whoever gave you the date were out by a year?

There is this marriage which may be Thomas's parents
JuneQ 1813
Thomas Summerfield & Mary A Statham  - Basford 7b 427
