Iron Foundry in St Neots 1861
« on: Monday 16 July 07 19:29 UTC (UK) »

Hello folks  Wink

Does anyone have any information of a Iron Foundry operating in St Neots in 1861.

The reason for asking is that my Great Grandfather was lodging in the town on the night of the 1861 Census and his trade is listed as it should have been, Moulder in an Iron Foundry.

He originated from Lincoln where he was an apprentice Iron Moulder and I have been attempting to discover the companies he worked for as can be seen from the Lincs board
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,244730.msg1337235.html#msg1337235

Identifying the St Neots connection may help. I am unable to see why he should be 70 miles from home unless it is to work

Many thanks

I can find no reference to such an enterprise in St Neots. The 1830 Pigots Directory states that the only manufacture in the town is that of paper, in the mill on the River Ouse, and there is no mention of a foundry in an 1862 directory.
