Hi Coppernob
There is a photo of a Dr Barnardo's home on this site at Long Melford Sudbury Suffolk. Don't know if thats the one you are asking about

http://www.goldonian.org/photos/photo_archive_homes/pages/montgomery_house.htm

Best place to try would be the Suffolk Records Office which I think is this website

Hello Coppernob  Grin

There was a children's home in Sudbury on The Croft.
However, the Barnardo's home was in Long Melford.

Montgomery House which is next to Holy Trinity Church in LM - The Old Hospital is to the right as you face the church and Montgomery House is to the left, huge old red bricked Victorian house.
It is now converted to three luxurious homes.
It became a nursing home for elderly and infirm until the 1990s.

This should help
http://www.barnardos.org.uk/who_we_are/history/history4.htm

Several years ago I helped a neighbour's father trace his family history, I seem to remember that we wrote to Dr Barnardo's in Essex and they sent copies of all the relevant papers and I was able to follow from what they sent to us.

From being a Barnardo's baby with no past family - we found all sorts of cousins.  Including in Canada.

This is the one where you can email enquiries
http://www.goldonian.org/barkingside/index.htm
part of the web site that Ricky1 recommended  Wink

Good luck with the search - I do know someone locally who was a nurse at Mongomery House when it was a children's home.

Thanks Ricky Now I have a place to start. I have not got many details but I can start asking. Smiley

SM  Thanks to you too,  Now I am a bit confused, but I think the childrens home is the favourite,  maybe he was a Barnardo's boy & was moved to Sudbury. There is also a bit of confusion as to who adopted him too. I think it was my Aunts parents & my cousin thinks it was my Aunt's husbands family. Mmmm Oh well here goes  another head spinning journey.

Many thanks both of you.  Smiley Smiley

ps SM will send you a pm

Hi Ricky & Suffolkmawther

sorry it has been so long,  but thanks for the info that you gave to me re-barnardo's.

I have recently been intouch with the daughter of the person I was looking for & she is going to send me copies of what she has about her Dad. it was wonderful to talk to her. And the bit about being a Barnardo's boy in Long Melford then moving on to a childrens home in Sudbury was right.

I hope to send her photo's of the buildings where her father stayed even tho' they are used for other purposes now.

Smiley Thanks again Rootschatters  Grin
