Hello Sharmor.

Thank you for the info about Heckley High House farm. As George was an agricultural labourer it is entirely possible that his Father was also connected with the land. Originally I had believed he was born in or near North Sunderland but this now seems unlikely.

I see your interests include the Harmison family. Are you of that ilk? There does seem to be a lot us out there! Most of what I have about the family is anecdotal apart from some information from Scully and possible traces in the Census,

Hope to pick your brains later.

Regards, Essayez.

A Google for
"Alnwick High House"
(with the quotes) finds the following site which lists some All Saints, Rennington graves of a HEWIT family of Alnwick High House:
http://www.rennington.flyer.co.uk/All%20Saints%20Graves.rtf

There's a nice photo of Heckley High House (possibly the same place) at:
http://www.theproofofthepudding.co.uk/acatalog/Heckley_High_House_Farm.html

The IGI has a George LUKE bap 1816 in Alnwick.  Do you have his parents' names?

Hello Jap,

Thank you for your interesting and useful input. Your research is obviously more thorough than mine. Regrettably I have no information as to the parents of George Luke, although the one you mention could be the one I am researching.

Hi Essayez,

I wonder whether you have George in earlier (or later) censuses - and, if so, his age and birthplace?

And whether anyone can find Alnwick/Heckley High House in 1841 - just might give a clue?

Or any other LUKEs in any census with High House and/or Alnwick birthplace?

As you will have seen, the IGI has the following George LUKEs born NBL around the time you suggest:
*George LUKE, b 28 May, bap 31 Jul 1808, parents James LUKE/Barbara RAWLING, All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne
*George LUKE, b 31 Aug, bap 14 Sep 1813, parents George LUKE/Jane, United Presbyterian, Spittal
*George LUKE, bap 13 Oct 1816, parents George LUKE/Elizabeth, Pottergate Street Scotch Presbyterian or Protestanalnwickers, Alnwick

Good luck,
