I have a Robert ENGLAND in my data base who came from Scotland to Canada before 1784 and settled in Northumberland Co., New Brunswick. My search for him has led me to a : Robert England, b 6 Nov 1756, Speymouth, Moray, Scotland, s/o Robert England and Agnes Garioch. This couple married 23 Sept 1751, Rothes, Moray, Scotland. Children in this family were, James England or Garioch, b 7 Oct 1750, Rothes, Moray, Scotland. Janet England, b 2 Sept 1753, Speymouth, Moray, Scotland. Robert England, and Alexander England, (Twins) b 6 Nov 1756, Speymouth, Moray, Scotland.
My problem is, I have been unable to trace the son "Robert England" of Speymouth, Moray, Scotland, forward, to determine if it is the same person in my data base. I suspect they are one and the same person but I cannot prove it. The common given names and the re-occurrences of several sets of twins. makes me believe that I am on the right track.
I hope someone can provide the proof I need.

Hi jedxn,
Do you know if Robert England (the son) was also married to an Agnes when he came to Canada from Scotland?

Hi Elizabeth, the Robert England that I am looking for married in New Brunswick, Canada. I believe that he was about 27 years old at the time. I did find two other Roberts, one was the father of Robert of Speymouth, and the other was several years younger than the Robert I want info on. I did find a marriage for the younger Robert but I did not save it. Sorry! Jim

Hi Elizabeth, Thank you for your last three messages. I will comment on all three. The Robert England on this end came from Scotland as per. land grant application. Also in that application we learn that he had built a house (probably a log cabin) on the land that he was applying for. This land grant application was dated March 1784. Personally knowing the area and the winter conditions, whatever shelter he built would have to be completed before winter set in in 1783. This Robert England is my wife's GG Grandfather.
#1, This is the one I am trying to trace forward from Scotland. My search for the surname "England" in Scotland produced very few with only three or four "Roberts". The Robert England born 6 Nov 1756 seems to be the only one in the right time bracket. He had a twin brother, Alexander. I am wondering if Alexander had any male England descendants? I was thinking about a possible DNA test. The info in this message is correct.
#2, On the census end, our census only really started in 1851. There are a lot of records coming forward after 1784. Before 1784, all of New Brunswick was part of Nova Scotia. Those records, if any, would be in Halifax.
#3, Yes, this is the right family. Robert and Marjory har five children.
We believe that these Roberts are one and the same person, however we cannot prove it.
