I have hit another one of my famous brickwalls.I have seen a newspaper report that states that the assistant of Dr Duncan McAllum of North Shields,a Dr Jonathan Morley married married Duncans daughter,name not given.One of the children born to this Morley couple was John Morley,born 24th Dec 1838,described as the second son of Mr Jonathan Morley,a surgeon practising at blackburn Lancashire.My problem is that I dont seem to have a spare daughter for Duncan McAllum and his wife Eliza Donkin who were married at Tynemouth 30th Sept 1815.Parents of Eliza Donkin (born 1798 at Seaton Sluce) were John Donkin and Priscilla Mary Cooper.Parents of Duncan McAllum (born,12th April 1791 at Inverness)were,Rev.Duncan mcAllum and Elizabeth Livingstone.Children of Duncan and Eliza McAllum North Shields were,John Donkin McAllum,born 3rd July 1816.Duncan Livingstone McAllum,born,13th August 1817.James Cooper McAllum,born,4th March 1819.Daniel McAllum,born,26th Feb 1822.Richard Beall McAllum,born,26th Feb 1822.Eliza McAllum,born,4th March 1826.Mary K.McAllum,born 1828.Benjamin McAllum,born 1830.Charles Octavious McAllum,born,1832.Henry McAllum,born, 1834.I have had many of the details of this family posted previosly,but would welcome any information about other siblings unknown to me.Also if its possible to find a marriage or census details for Jonathan Morley,surgeon in North Shields or Blackburn I would be so gratefull.Gereon.

Hi Susan,thanks very much for finding that out.I would say that is correct.Just goes to show that everything you read in the newspapers is fact.This quotation from the Blackburn Local News,9th Jan 1904,is what confused me.Mr John Morley,as Scotsman and Methodist."Dipping back into the 18th century the latter finds that one Duncan McAllum of Inverness,had 4 sons,one of whom,Daniel,after gaining his Degree as Doctor of Medicine,entered the Wesleyan Ministry,and died in 1827,at the age of 33,leaving behind him "a high repution for intellectual force,charm of manner,and beauty of religious charactor".Another,also a doctor,resided in North Shields,where his daughter married Dr Morley,her fathers assistant,and later to become mother of Gladstones biographer.Till she left Shields she was a class leader in the Methodist Church.That by descent Mr Morley is a Scotsman and a Methodist seems proven."Obviously not.Thanks again for your help Susan,in providing a solution .Gereon.

Guess the owner just entered where they were from for place of birth, it looks like it was quite a big hotel and could have been quicker than going round them all individually

Thanks for that Susan.I have received an email from the Blackburn Community History Dept,kindly confirming that Priscilla Mary Donkin was indeed the wife of Jonathan Morley,and parents of John Morley,a prominent English Statesman and M.P for Newcastle amongst many other achievements .It was also confirmed that the newspaper article was incorrect.I must contact them to say thanks and ask about any details they may have of Rev Duncan McAllums other two sons,John and Alexander who may have moved to Newcastle to be closer to their father who died in 1837.It been another interesting posting for me.Cheers.Gereon.

Do you have any info on Dr. Jonathan Morley's general servant Jane Corrigan?
In 1851 she was working at the home of Dr. Morley and appears on the census as...

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what the rate of coincidences would be with this post. As it happens I am also hitting a brick wall in my research of the descendants of Jonathan and Priscilla Morley. The responses to your posts are, I believe, accurate. I am currently looking for any children born to Edward Sword Morley, John Morley, and William Wheelhouse Morley, who died in India. He did have children one of whom was Guy Morley. I'm also wondering if Robert Morley (the famous actor) born born 26 May, 1906 in Semley, Wiltshire, England, and died in the 1980s.
From online records I have found that Priscilla Morley's hailed from a shipbuilding family in North Shields.
I hope some of this is helpful to you and I would be grateful for any assistance with the names and birth dates of Jonathan's grandchildren.
