1804 Does anyone know this curate?
« on: Friday 20 July 07 11:19 UTC (UK) »

I have an 1804 marriage No 701 from Holy Trinity in Kendal
Curate's name is Thomas Briggs.
I am trying to find out if he was from one of the surrounding chapels.
The vicar of Kendal at this time was Henry Robinson.
Any suggestions please ?

SUe
a2a has a reference from 30 August 1800 to Thomas Briggs of Kirkby in Kendal clerk and Henry Robinson of Kirkland

There are other references to Thomas Briggs coroner and rope maker.
regards
Deborah

I hadn't thought of looking on A2A.Will check it out. I've been looking at local churches/chapels without success.

It is possible that an early edition of Crockfords Clerical Directory will have details of him.  He does not appear in my copy from 1865 but if you can find an earlier one in a library somewhere you may find him.   It started in 1858 so he may have been still alive.  Local directories always listed the clergy too so that is another possibility.
