Thomas Taylor in 1871
« on: Thursday 09 October 08 15:39 BST (UK) »

Thomas Taylor was living at 1 Pipe Passage in Coleham Shrewsbury in 1871 but was absent when the census was taken. The family story goes he was collecting clay from Stoke-on-Trent on census day. Can anyone find him?

He was born in Gloucester in 1827.

I can see the possible logic of Stoke-on-Trent but I also understood that pipeclay was brought up the Severn from North Devon to be unloaded at Coleham.

Maybe he was in that part of the country?Huh

Annie,

Intriguing but I don't think this is him as this Thomas was born in Shropshire and my Thomas was baptised in Gloucester in 1827 and not found in Shrewsbury until 1830. Also the William mentioned doesn't seem to fit with anyone that I'm currently aware of. Thomas had an elder brother William (born Birmingham 1816) who he seems to have fallen out with and Thomas didn't name any of his children  William despite it being his father's name.

I'll keep this up my sleeve just in case.

Many thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter

Glad you got the right info.. again  my apologies.

The William Taylor on the census I believe is coincidental as his place of birth is West Brom and therefore no connection to Thomas.

Just a thought

Annie,

Does it say where in Shropshire that Thomas was born?

Hi Peter

Just taken a look at the census and it just says Salop and no town.  Not much that, is it?

Best wishes
