Hello Looking for any help on a branch of the Harland family from Lythe to confirm the information I have is correct.
Richard Harland married Margaret Burrow on 4/1/1774 in Lythe. Their daughter, Ann, was born 20/1/1781 in Lythe. I believe that they may of had more children but have been unable to trace any. Margaret died and was buried 11/10/1781 in Lythe. I think Richard may of then married again this time in Danby on 26/8/1786, his spouse being Hannah Cook. A daughter Alice is baptised on 3/8/1790 and her death recorded on 2/9/1790. A son, Joseph is born and baptised 10/10/1795 and another son, Moses, is born 21/4/1798. Richard's burial is recorded on 1/10/1802, a weaver (which he had consistantly been described as) from Lythe aged 55.
His daughter Ann, had a son, Richard, born 8/12/1802. She was still a spinster at the time.
I believe that Ann then goes onto marry a Thomas Thompson (possibly in Hinderwell) on 31/7/1805. Thomas was a seaman.
Ann Thompson is my grandmother x4, her daughter, Hannah, baptised in Hinderwell on 22/2/1810 is my grandmother x3, although by this time I suspect that Thomas is deceased as no father is mentioned on the baptism. Hannah, confusingly, says her father was a John Thompson on her marriage certificate!
Ann Thompson has at least two more children after Hannah, a girl, Jane Waller Thompson baptised in Lythe 11/6/1817 and a son, Moses, baptised 3/5/1820. Ann is described as a widow on both occasions.
Does anybody recognise the family? Ann is head of household in 1841 with Moses still with her and newly married Hannah with husband, William Raine and son Richard. Also with her are 4 boys Hannah had before her marriage!
Ann dies 7/7/1874 aged 93years.
If anybody could confirm the Harland ancestry it would be a great help!
Sue

Hi Sue
Seen your post, it is just that I have a lot of Cooks, in my tree.
There are a few Hannah Cook's there is one that was born in Moorsholm in 1757.
And then another Hannah Cook born 1809, in Moorsholm, on another family members tree, it says husband unknown, son born Danby, Miles Cook,1833, he married a Hannah Clark, and had sixteen children, but the dates are wrong sorry if I am confusing you but Danby, is such a small place, could there be some connection?
Regards Kathc

Hi Kath Just checked the Danby register regarding the marriage of Richard Harland and Hannah Cook and it reads: Richard Harland & Hannah Cook both of this parish were married by licence 29 Aug 1786 by D Duck. Witnesses George Hoggarth and George Peirson.
I don't know whether the witnesses names mean much to you.
Also on the register is a baptism for 30/9/1788: John, son of Richard Harland, a weaver.
But why isnt Hannah mentioned? She reappears as a parent for the birth of Alice in 1790 in the Lythe parish register. Aug 3rd 1790 - Alice, daughter of Richard & Hannah harland of Lythe, weaver.
Would like to think that there was a connection with your Cook's!
Sue

Hi Sue
I have family from all around that area, my 3x Great Grandfather George Durham was born the year before John Harland, in Lythe 1787 I wounder if they knew one another?
George Married twice first wife Priscilla Page, second wife Rachel Brown, he had four children to Priscilla, and one to Rachel, all born in Lythe.
The witnesses names do not mean anything to me, but I had to smile when I saw the name of the person who married them I hope it wasnt Donald or Daffy Duck, (sorry it is just my sense of hummer)
I work at our local Primary school in Acklam in Middlesbrough, and have just started the six weeks holidays, so I am hoping to visit some of the villages that my ancestors came from, moorsholm. Lythe, Hinderwell, Whitby, and a few more.
If you come up with anything please get in touch, and I will do the same.
Kind Regards Kathy

Hi Kathy, Thanks for your message and I'm so jealous with you having 6 weeks off!! I work in the local library and we are inundated with kids once they finish school! You'll love Hinderwell, Lythe and Sandsend. The churchyard at Lythe has a wealth of interesting headstones, visited last year and spent hours wandering around - hubby getting very bored! Have tried to contact Bernard, no reply as yet!
Cheers Sue
