Deciphering a Townland name ... "Goyny?"

Hi all

A Researcher I hired to look at Parish registers in the PRONI found a marriage for me ... I am thrilled unfortunately the entry apparently is not easy to read.

The marriage was found in the Kilbarron Parish Register, it was in 1832.

The bride was from Kilbarron Parish Co. Donegal and the groom was from:

"Goyny? Parish -----? Diocese of Kilmore"  I am assuming Diocese of Kilmore is Co. Fermanagh ...

I am wondering if anybody can speculate at what townland might be "Goyny"... and then what Parish it would be located in.   

The grooms' surname was Rutledge and Rutledges are all over Co. Fermanagh!  Undecided

SPECULATE is the operative word  Wink

Just looking for a townland in Fermanagh which is short, starts with G and ends with ny I came across GOWNY.

But it seems to be in the parish of Clones ...

a bit of speculating from me as well. Smiley

was the marriage roman catholic or church of ireland?

there is a townland in county leitrim called GOWLY, in the parish of kiltubbrid, catholic diocese of ardagh and clonmacnois.

but, and a big but, if the marriage was Church of Ireland then the diocese would be kilmore,elphin and ardagh.

assuming the person who wrote in the parish register knew that GOYNY was in the diocese of kilmore i think this is a good bet as i cant find a townland in the catholic diocese of kilmore that looks like your goyny, which incidentally only covers a part of fermanagh,all of cavan,half of leitrim and parts of meath and sligo.

clones parish,that JAP mentions,is in the diocese of clogher.

if the marriage took place in a roman catholic church; then i'm stumped Wink. as i said, i'm just speculating,so dont be taking my word for it Smiley

The marriage was found in the C of I register for Kilbarron Parish, Co. Donegal which borders Co. Fermanagh and sort of Co. Leitrim as well. 

So I don't think a RC was marry a girl in the C of I in 1832?  I have no idea but later, upon arrival in Canada, the couple was Methodist on our censuses.

Yes, I saw that the Diocese of Kilmore (Catholic) covered alot of different Counties ... 

I did speculate and look and given the complication of what is met by "Diocese of Kilmore" it is once again sort of looking for a needle in a haystack.

I do suspect this particular towland is somewhere in Co. Fermanagh but where exactly ... I too am stumped!

I will look at Gowny and see ... thanks

Gowny is a townland in Co Fermanagh, in the Barony of Clonkelly, Civil Parish of Clones,
