BISHOPs of Hemingford Grey
« on: Wednesday 18 July 07 14:12 BST (UK) »

I am interested in finding more details of the children of Thomas Bishop & Hannah Dant who married at Hemingford Grey on 8th Sept 1807.  Hannah died in 1816 & Thomas remarried Dennis Abblett.

The children I am interested in are :-   all baptised at H.G.

Susan    10/10/1813
Edward  16/10/1814
George   24/04/1816

I've looked at BMD & census records & I cannot see them anywhere.

Any help & information would be greatfully received.

See previous posting for background .....

No trace of Edward with that birthyear on the 1841 or 1851.  There is one b 1796 in Hemingford Grey

In 1841 - there is a George Bishop aged 24 occ butcher  in Great Gidding but he is shown as not born in county.  On the same image there is a Thomas Bishop butcher 34 with wife Suzanne - both not b in county

David,  If you like rain you would be very pleased to be over here !

Thanks for those two burials - that's why I can't find them.

As to Susan, on 1851 there is a Susan Adams age 44 born 1807 Hemingford Grey, married to Robert Adams age 45 born Over, Cambs, & they have Dennis 17 & George 12. On 1841 they are  living in Hemingford Abbotts Robert shown as NOT born in county. What do you have on Cambridgeshire marriages in 1833/34 ?

Carol

Thanks for the reply, Seems George & Thomas Bishop, butchers of Gt Gidding are a different family.  But I'm interested in the Edward Bishop b 1796 born H G that you found. He may well be related to Thomas, they were both shepherds. Another shepherd is William Bishop born 1810 in H G who I found up in Gedney, Lincs.

FreeBMD has Susan Bishop marriage in Dec 1840 in St Ives which includes HG - other party Alderton, Read or Waller - but care as one of the other females was also Susan

David

What's butter got to do with it?

OK from the match any 3 pairs from 6 names I give you ....

Robert Waller married the Jane Giddings, on 1841 they are both 25 & in Hemingford Abbots. However in 1851 Robert Waller is 32 with a 25 year old Mary plus 2 year old Frances.  A death index of Jane Waller at St Ives RD in 1848.

Aaron Read/Reed married a Susan  but which one ?. On 1841 he's 25 living in Fenstanton with 20 yr old Susan. 1851 living in Kirton, Lincs is this Aaron age 35 born Stanton Fen, with a 35 year old wife Frances, & step sons named Atkins. Aaron Read married Frances Atkins in Mar 1850 at Boston. Lincs.

So William Alderton, married the other Susan. 1851 he's 36 she's 35 both born St Ives.
They are running The Grapes Inn at St Ives.

That's as far as I got.  I'm off out now - so results posted for me when I get back,  Cheers John

So,  I think it's time to wait until I get a chance to go & visit the Huntingdon record office. Of the three I would put my money on the Alderton marriage, as William's father, Robert Alderton is Toll keeper in Hem Grey in 1861.

But there is a Susan b 1806 H.G. consistent over the 1841 - 1871 censuses married to William Willis born Fen Stanton, who had son William b 1840 H.G. . I can find his birth index but not their marrige index.

It's a slow old day today. John, ...isn't it.......

Agreed - if it's the right Susan Bishop marriage then the Alderton one looks favourite, although the birth place is wrong in 1851.

I think everyone must have gone on holiday now schools have finished. Rigor mortis seems to have set in.

Probably a good time for you to consider a break - why not go to Canada?

More visitors arrive on Sunday for 10 days. It'll take me till then to get the house straight

Slow? I'll tell you what slow is. Did I mention that Stéphan and I went to watch the Tour de France as it flashed through town yesterday? It's a bit like sex. We waited around for 2 hours and then it was all over in 20 seconds.
