Yes, I was hoping there might be a bit more detail in the parish register as I'm a bit confused. I've found two Wardells, one born Northallerton 1770c and one in St Cuthberts, Darlington 1788c and both married to Janes. I think it's the Northallerton one I want but confusingly in 1841 he was living in Darlington and some of his children were baptised St Cuthberts (apart from the one baptised in Sussex) . The only marriage I've found so far, is the Hampshire one so I was hoping that I could either forget about it or move on with more info.

I am also confused
You have a Wardell Watson b 1770 Northallerton who appears to be married to Jane Oilver.
You have a Wardell Watson b 1788 Darlington who appears to be married to Jane Hamilton.
On the 1841 I can only find this one HO107/303/24/8/5/5
Post Office Yard. Darlington.
Wardell Watson 70 occupation? born (1770) b in the county Jane 60 Isabella 30 Elizabeth 25 Dorothy 15 Jane 20 Jane 3
I cannot find the other one but there is this entry
HO107/320/2/8/34/18
Lillygate, St Giles, Durham.
John Watson 26 Writer Mary 25 Thomas 3 William 1 JANE WATSON 53 Ind (B 1788) Mary Jackson.
I may be wrong but it would seem to me that this is Jane Hamilton as her age is the same as Wardell Watson born in Darlington.
Are there any clues in the children names that might lead you to decide which one is yours.
Whats really confusing is that the marriage in Alverstoke Hampshire is to Jane Hamilton, thats a long way from Darlington.

Hi Patrish, thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure it's the Northallerton one I want because my 2xgreat grandfather, Thomas Watson, married St Johns Darlington 1855, his father is shown on the certificate as Wardle Watson, policeman.
I found Wardle on the 1841, wife Ann and son Thomas 10. So far so good. On the IGI I found a birth date of 20.09.1802, christened 18.09.1803 Newcastle upon Tyne, parents Wardell Watson and Jane Oliver.
Wardell and Jane seemed to move about a bit, as I said, one daughter was christened at Winchelsea, Sussex.(I think his occupation on the 1841 census is "Army p", which I guess is pensioner. This could explain why he moved about. His death cert gives his occupation as weaver)
The 1788 Wardell is possibly a cousin or nephew to the 1770 Wardell so if there was already family in Darlington this may be why they settled there. I'm really trying to tie loose ends, also it wouldn't be the first time someone has apparently married the "wrong" woman, one turned out to be a widow and the other illegitimate.
It's all good fun, thanks for your help.

Hi,
.
On the 41 census where I could not read the occupation I think it does read Army P he could be an Army Police man as I notice there was another on the page as a Policeman.but he a bit old so could well be pensioner.
If correct he would have moved around a lot I would imagine.
I am glad I was of some help, I wondered if I had confused you more, but thankfully not so. I think is safe to assume that Jane Oilver is yours
Happy hunting,
Patrish.
