HOOSON - Shrewsbury area
« on: Tuesday 24 July 07 12:07 BST (UK) »

Hello Roots

I am looking for ancestor info/descendants/connections etc for the HOOSON family from Shrewsbury 1800's.

I have John Hooson born c1848 Shrewsbury married (1877 Atcham)  to Elizabeth Margaret Lloyd.
Children - John L - c1882
Elizabeth E c1882
Alice J c1887
Alfred J c1889
Florence A c1890
Cecil M c1892
all born Shrewsbury

John (father and son) worked on the railways  - engine driver and fireman.

John L joined the 3rd northumberland fusiliers WW1 (have got his medal card) and remained in the Gateshead area where he married E Welsh.  His family apparently disowned him.

I have tracked John and Elizabeth within the census from 1881 but prior to that I am still looking.

Thanks
Vicky

My goodnes, that was quick!!!  Thank you.

As I say I have not long turned my attentions to this side of the family and as my mum in law has scant information (She has only recently remembered that her father came from Shropshire) it is making it all rather hard going.

I am going to order the marriage cert for John L and Elizabeth Lloyd so hopefully that should give some confirmation of details too.

Let's see if the marriage cert confirms this:

1871
RG10/2773 12 17
Shrewsbury St Julian
Old Coleham

Margaret Williams, head, wid, 71, Midwife, b. Flintshire Llamphayel??
Elizabeth M Loyd, granddau, 16, b. Salop Shrewsbury

1861
RG9/1871 74 7
Shrewsbury St Julian
Coleham

John Lloyd, head, 36, Iron Founder, b. Bolton Lancashire
Elizabeth, wife, 30, b. Shrewsbury
Elizabeth M, dau, 6, scholar, b. do.
Mary Ann, dau, 2, b. do.
Richard, son, 6 months, b. do.

(more kids by 1871: Emily Alice age 8, Martha E age 5, Beatrice C age 3, Agnes A age 1 - obviously John was generous with his X chromosome  Cool)
