Thomas FRANKLIN
« on: Thursday 01 January 09 19:05 UTC (UK) »

Dear All
Can anyone help with a Thomas Franklin born ca 1700, birthplace unknown, living in 1719 in Wilstead.  He married Hannah Purser, and after her death Catherine Warner.  He died in Wilstead in 1774.

I have him in my database but I don't know where he was from, although there are other Franklins in Wilstead at the right time. When he married Hannah Purser in Cardington he was of the parish of Wilshamstead.  I believe Catherine Warner may have been the widow of Henry Warner, and her maiden name may have been Brockas, but this is speculative

Dear David
How kind of you to help.  He is my (don't know how many times) great grandfather, but we can't get back further, but your suggestion about Catherine is certainly very interesting.  Thank you very much for your help.

This refers to some land deals in 1707 in Wilstead and mentions Thomas Franklin sen and Thomas Franklin jun. Sinve your Thomas was born c1695-1700, perhaps both his father and grandfather were Thomas.

Thankyou so much Richard - I have just spent a very enjoyable morning going through these archives - talk about "all life is here".  And brilliant to find lots of Franklins as tenants, including Thomas junior and senior, which looks very promising; and also as constables - particularly the Edward Franklin in Wilshamstead - just where he's needed - how tantalising!  And also a William Franklin who is a knight presenting people to court for counterfeiting - it is all realy fascinating, and hopefully will help to sort Thomas's line out.  Thankyou again for all your help.

Try looking for Wilstead History or

Blarsadlib

Well, I live in Wilstead [outsiders say: Wilshamstead!] and know the graveyard well.  I don't think there are FRANKLINs in Wilstead graves.

From what I can gather from previous messages, it may well be worth contacting Beds Archives to see if they have left a Will.

But apart from Wills [which are not Beds Archives search site] there is other info @ blars adlib.  But if I were you I would certainly contact Brds Archives for a Will

Hello Derby Girl,
Don't know if you have the following Franklin in your records?:

Elizabeth Franklin of Astwood, Bucks

Cheers,
