Linton - Applegarth
« on: Friday 27 July 07 13:20 BST (UK) »

The headstone inscription:

In memory of James Linton in Millbank who died December 25th, 1746 aged 46 years. Also James, William senior and junior. Mary and Richard Linton's grandchildren. Also Mary Jardine spouse to Thomas Linton in Gimembie who died 8 December, 1843 aged 79.

Any connection?

Have found the headstone. We can't see why Thomas isn't in there, as he had living family. He would have died between the '41 and '51 census.

Would also like to know who Mary Linton - nee Jardine - and Thomas'  parents were.

Records show that there weren't many Lintons in Dumfriesshire.

Any other Linton's lerking on this site?

Hi Jamjar

I have Elizabeth Linton b1804 Saint Mungo,Dumfriesshire m James Richardson 1828 Saint Mungo
Elizabeth Lintons father was a Thomas Linton.

Elizabeth & James Richardson had 5 children
1.David
2.Thomas
3.William
4.James
5.John
all born Dumfriesshire.

I have no other info but there is an old posting on Genealogy.com #278 under Linton (obviously) from  a Jock Linton who has been working on Lintons in Dumfriesshire for years who seems keen to help Linton researchers.

Hiya, im new to this and this is my 1st time, so please bare with me.

I was born Feb 10. 1970 and registerd as Craig Linton. My mother was Elizabeth Linton and from the information i have she was from Gretner.

I was adopted and have only my adoption papers which unfortunatley do not seem to contain much information.

I dont know if any of this will help, or if anybody could me in my search?
Many thanks
Andy
