Irregular Marriages Recorded in Border Papers

I have just bought a transcript of Irregular Marriages recorded in the Berwick Advertiser and other border papers from 1808 to 1864.

Thousands of English couples popped over the Scottish border for their Toll Marriage as the Scottish marriage laws were quite lax in the period up to the late 1850's. These marriages were quite legal but they were not registerd in Parish or Civil records.

The list includes the date of the "marriage", where it took place and of course who marries whom.
