Is it possible for some kind sole to look up a marriage between Samuel knight and Ann Kirkby. The marriage took place 1824 in Whicham, Cumberland. Samuel was born in Lancs and was a shoemaker. Any information regarding this couple would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Tricia,
Some kind people in Lancashire have given me a list of the children of Samuel and Ann in 1841. They are William, Isabella, John and Dorothy. Hope this helps.

Interesting that on the IGI it only shows Isabella, Dorothy and John as children of Samuel Knight and Ann all being born in Whicham, Cumberland. William isn't included.
There is a birth of a William Knight in Rochdale Lancs to a Samuel Knight and Ann in 1822. If this is Samuel then Ann may be a first wife(different Ann) Maybe???
Samuel is about 10 years older than Ann Kirkby

The 1851 has "Redish" Lancashire as his birthplace and wife Hannah is Cheshire Stockport. I thought it may have been Reddish which is Stockport

William is at home with Samuel and Ann but still born Lancs so is presumably from a first marriage

William was only 15 in 1841 (possibly 19) but is 36 in 1851 so b around 1814/15 The image is a bit naff so could be meant to be age 26
1861 has him b 1825 Broughton Lancs

I agree - but the marriage entry isn't going to do that either as it was pre-1837.
I found an older Samuel Knight on the IGI and he was b Lancashire - Kirby Ireleth.
Set me thinking. Did the Kirkby (Merseyside) we know today exist in the 1700's when Samuel was born?
I've seen Simonswood and Melling on later census entries but can't recall seeing Kirkby. Just a thought

On Genuki it says that the church was re-built in 1766 so I guess it was.
