Jackson/Pepper Family - Airth/Lanarkshire
« on: Monday 30 July 07 14:57 BST (UK) »

I have managed to trace my Grandfather, John Jackson to the village of Airth in Stirlingshire where he met and married my Grandmother Marion Pepper.  Soon afterwards it appears that the family moved to Carluke.  If anyone has information on this family, in particular, my Granddad John Jackson, I would like to hear from you.

Thanks :

Hi Joe

Thanks for your reply.  I am trying to map the period before my granddad, John Jackson, moved to Carluke.  My granddad was born about 1884 and died 25th July 1957 at our family home in Castlemilk, Glasgow.  My father and at least one other brother were born in Airth, Stirlingshire.  My Grandmother's family, the Pepper's, do show up in the 1881 census for Airth.  So, putting 2 and 2 together, I have to assume that My Grandfather, John Jackson, was in Airth after 1884 where at some point he met and married my Grandmother, Marion Pepper.  My Grandfather's parents were; William Jackson and Susan Jackson (nee Rae).
Any help with the Jackson side would be greatly appreciated,  Kind Regards, John

took me a while with the pepper's john....

but now i have worked it out....at long last

james pepper, was born in aldham, essex. he appears on the 1851 english census living with joseph warner. the census details says he was born out of wedlock.

on the 1861 english census, he is now with john check (mariner) and is apprentice.

on the 1871 scotland census he appears aboard star, cramond, midlothian,
aged 24 and able fisherman.

in 1875 he marries marion.

now marion taylor livingston was born 15/5/1843, daughter of james livingston and isabella jaffrey, who married 2/7/1841

she married james irvine on the 14/2/1860 in airth, i have only found 3 children from this marriage

irvine children from the igi's

isabella...born 17/9/1861
moses...born 26/1/1864
ann gordon...born 7/3/1866

will be back with more...
