1861 census look up please

Could someone try and find an Alexander and Jane Simpson both born c1834 in the 1861 census.  Alexander should be a Tailor.  I have already been given the 1871 census by one of the sites kind readers.

Hi Betty

They are living in Forres. His estimated birth is 1833 in Elgin.  Jane's is 1834 born Garmouth. His occupation is shown as Tom 7 Tailor!  No others present.

Citation is Forres Ed 1 page 20 line 22.

Hope this is enopugh info.

Thanks for finding the census.

Forres is where I hoped he would be but I was hoping he might have had a live in housekeeper called Jessie Bain. Does it give any indication as to their address in Forres.

I am new to Scottish census Betty so bear with me. the Subscriber site I am checking does not have images. All it says is Reg. District Forres; Civil Parish Forres; County Moray; Address 49!

It simply shows Alex and Jane Simpson. I had a quick look for a Jessie Bain and there are a couple, have you got an approx date and place of birth for her?  I am happy to look again.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I am afraid I can't give a date of birth.
She gave birth to a daughter in October 1861.  Her occupation was housekeeper. Birth was registered both in Forres and Elgin

To me housekeeper would perhaps indicate older than a teenager but I might be wrong.

I had another thread looking for a look up in the1871 census and indicated that I had followed a Jessie Bain who was a shoemakers daughter.  She would fit in several ways but not all.

If you could tell me who you have found in the 1861 census by the name of Jessie Bain that would be great.

Hmm the Jessie Bains living in Moray are as follows:

Aged 51 Head born Rosskeen Rosshire

General Servant living with
John McKenzie Son aged 20 born about 1841 in Elgin a labourer.

the other 2 Jessies are 3months and 9years old respectively!

So not much help and reading the other thread I don't think this adds much - sorry Betty.
