I would be interested in any details on the Fiddes family who were painters and decorators living in the Bourne/Spalding area.

Hi amanda,
I don't know what years you were exactly looking for but I have copies of the 1929 and 1933 Kellys directories. Unfortunately I can't find any trace of the FIDDES family.They are not mentioned in the Painters and Decorators section.Can you help me and narrow down as to which place they might have lived?They might have had a different occupation.

Hi Trisha
My grandfather was called William Alonzo Fiddes and I believe he had his own painting and decorating business in the Spalding area. (My father was born in 1923 so I reckon it could have been any time after that). I have no idea what he called the business but Fiddes is an unusual name. The family moved to Peterborough in the 1950s but at this time he would have retired.
If there are any Fiddes names listed I suspect they would be family.
If it is not too much bother, could you look up the Pell family name please? (This is my grandmother's maiden name and might have traded under this name.) Huh

Hi Amanda,
I've searched through both of my directories and under painters and decorators there is no one called Fiddes or Pell who is trading.I did search for the name Fiddes throughout the book and couldn't find it in any trade or as a private resident.There were 2 Pells in 1933 ,both Male ,1 from Lincoln 1 from Woodhall Spa..
However you should remember that just because your grandfathers name isn't in here doesn't mean he wasn't trading at the time.Traders had to pay to be included in the directory so many didn't bother.
