I have found an Anne Sorrel (father James) in 1841 in Essex -she also has a brother Walter
Do you have the marriage cert of Ann and William John?
This would give father's names and occupations (also witnesses -who are sometimes relatives) and would save your research being a guess

Hello to Suz and Nanny Jan, thank you both very much for replying to my message it is great to find out people try to help out. Unfortunately I haven't found out yet when William and Ann came to Australia I may have to go to the Library and look through the reels there. I haven't the marriage certificate either to find out both their ancestors. I have to be careful to obtain their death certificates here to make sure that they are correct this usually tells a lot of the family. Once again thanks for the input it is greatly received. Have a good day and take care. Janet

Janet,
Do you have the year of birth of Walter and Frederick?
What were the dates of birth for the children b. Australia -that would narrow the timescale of their move down
The 1841 census found showing Ann Sorrel with brother Walter in Essex, may be a possibility.
Edmonton reg district includes Essex

Hello Suz, Thanks for replying so quickly. On the death certificate of Henry James Norris (son of William John and Ann Sorrell) he died of tetanus on the 24/6/1907 witnesses at the burial were a Frederick and Walter Norris his wife Annie Maria Norris was still living. The children they had were Arthur aged 20, Esther aged 18 (my grandmother) Albert aged 16 and Lily aged 11. I am searching for the records of Frederick and Walter Norris to see if they passed away here, sometimes it is hard to find the right ones. William John Norris was a grocer by trade. Thanks for your help I will look later again the State BDM records are always changing. Take care Janet

Hello Suz, I have just been looking for Anne Sorrell in the 1841 Census I'm afraid I couldn't find her and brother Walter, their was a lot of the family name's shown. Frederick Norris died in 1946 I could purchase his certificate, but it might show the same information as Henry James Norris, sometimes the names are not the same, you may be paying for the wrong family. I will keep on looking have a great and safe weekend. Regards Janet How do you insert a picture under your name in the left hand side.

Thanks for your news, I will have another look, I have also may contact to another source the Sorrel Web page and they will help. I wish sometimes I could travel over to visit everyone in England and thank them for searching for me, it is frustrating here not to know where to look. Have a great weekend. Janet

Hello Valda, Great to receive your message, I will look into this straight away, I received information that Anne's parents were James and Mary Sorrel the dates are very close, still I am only going on records from other sources, I always look into BDM N.S.W. Australia and it sometimes doesn't show the parents so you are not sure if the names are the ones you are after. I don't go into Rootschat the often a lot of reading and searching. Keep safe and have a good week. Regards Janet

Ann gave William as her father on her marriage in 1844 (see previous post - source BVRI taken from Cheshunt parish register) and on her death registration in New South Wales. There are no James and Mary Sorrells in Cheshunt. Ann gave her birthplace as Cheshunt on the 1851 census and a birth date circa 1825/6.
